"But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
made us alive with (Jesus) Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved."
(Ephesians 2:4-5)

CLBA President Joel Egge comes to Bunker Hill

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

On Wednesday, January 22 a nice sized group of people from Bunker Hill braved the bitter cold and came out to hear the Rev. Joel Egge, President of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren of America speak. Pastor Egge came to remind us that we are part of a larger body of believers and that united together with other CLBA churches we are part of an important mission to shine the light of the Gospel into North America and the far reaches of the world. He highlighted three important parts of a five-year plan to accomplish the vision and mission of the CLBA.

The First area is to encourage and help local congregations and individuals to step out in faith and become involved in strengthening church planting in North America. The church of the Lutheran brother has a goal to plant five new churches in North America in the next five years.

The Second is to encourage and help local congregations and individuals to become aware and become involved in our international missions. The goal of the CLBA is to be able to send four new missionary teams to Chad and Taiwan in the next five years.

Thirdly Pastor Egge spoke about an exciting development in the ability of the Lutheran Brethren Seminary to offer online learning. The Lutheran Brethren Seminary launched online learning this past fall which opens up nearly unlimited possibilities for the preparing future leaders. With the recent accreditation of the Lutheran Brethren Seminary there has been a great influx of new students.

President Egge is going to retire from his position at the national convention in July and he took some time to introduce two prospective candidates for the position of President for the Church of the Lutheran Brethren. The candidates are Pastor Jeff Seaver from Triumph LBC in Moorhead, Minnesota and Pastor Paul Larson from Bethesda LBC in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

A nice time was had by all who attended. Many of us were also able to visit with Pastor Egge’s wonderful wife Barbara in a social time after.
